Historically the u.s. has been good at assimilating immigrants, whereas european and asian countries do not assimilate well. the u.s. baby boom cohort is about 70m i believe, almost one-half of the 158 million strong u.s. work force. immigrants offer a potential source of new workers to replace retiring baby boomers and could be selected for needed technological skills. these new workers would pay into social security and medicare, potentially amelioriating projected shortfalls.
