The guys at HowMuch.net just built this incredible visual based on data recently released from on the Bureau of Economic Analysis. It shows where economic activity currently happens – and where it doesn’t – across the United States.
It’s pretty stunning to see that 20 metropolitan areas account for 52% of total GDP.

-New York, Newark, Jersey City: $1.56 trillion
-Los Angeles, Long Beach, Anaheim: $867 billion
-Chicago, Naperville, Elgin: $611 billion
-Houston, The Woodlands, Sugar Land: $525 billion
-Dallas, Fort Worth, Arlington: $504 billion
